On November 2, the final of the 14th “Challenge Cup” QinChuangYuan Platform National College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition—jointly hosted by the Communist Youth League Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the China Association for Science and Technology, the All-China Students’ Federation and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, and organised by Xi’an Jiaotong University and the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League—concluded successfully at Xi’an Jiaotong University. Yanbian University’s entry, “Ji-Jiang Sets Sail–A Cultural and Creative Empowerment Leader Enabling High-Quality Agricultural Products to Cross Mountains and Rivers,” won the Gold Award in the main competition track, marking a historic breakthrough for our university in achieving its first gold medal in the “Challenge Cup” series.
Since its launch in June 2024, the competition has attracted over three million students from more than 2,700 universities, submitting over 390,000 innovation and entrepreneurship projects. After university-level preliminaries and provincial semifinals, 839 projects from 412 domestic and 14 international universities advanced to the national finals. The judging panel awarded 280 Gold, 559 Silver and 1,559 Bronze prizes (including 100 Gold, 200 Silver and 300 Bronze in special tracks). Yanbian University secured one Gold and two Bronze Prizes in the main track.
For the final defence, Yanbian University fielded a team led by a senior university leader, together with members of the University Youth League Committee, project advisors and defence panelists. The “Ji-Jiang Sets Sail” project directly responds to national strategy by promoting ethnic unity and mutual benefit in border regions. It establishes cross-regional cultural platforms to help premium Xinjiang farm products reach broader markets, applying a youth-driven, science-based branding strategy to solve sales challenges and create a new model for brand-powered regional circulation and support for Xinjiang. The project received high praise from judges and ultimately won the Gold Award.
The “Challenge Cup” series, with the motto “Esteem Science, Pursue Truth, Study Diligently, Innovate Boldly, Embrace Challenges,” has evolved into a comprehensive practice platform for university students, a second classroom for cultivating scientific spirit, and a tangible forum for developing teamwork and collective awareness. It is widely regarded as the “Olympics” of student technological innovation.
Yanbian University plans to deepen the “Challenge Cup” brand’s influence among faculty and students, continually refine its internal competition model, cultivate high-quality projects and foster a strong innovation environment. Focusing on the national strategy of building a science and technology powerhouse, the university will enhance the effectiveness of innovation education, contribute to its “Double First-Class” development goals and provide broader practical platforms for student growth.
