With the approval of the Central Committee, Ma Yanming has been appointed as President (with vice-ministerial rank) and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University.

Ma Yanming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, enrolled in the major of  Physics of Yanbian University in 1991 and continued his postgraduate education in theoretical physics at his alma mater in 1995, earned a Master of Science degree in 1998. Previously, he served as a standing committee member of the CPC Committee and Vice President of Jilin University. On September 21, 2024, Ma Yanming was appointed as an Honorary Professor of Yanbian University.

Ma Yanming has received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Professor of the National Key Talent Program of the Ministry of Education, recognition as a National High-Level Talent, National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker and recipient of the Special Allowance from the State Council. He also serves as a member of the 8th Physics and Astronomy Discipline Review Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Chairman of the Jilin Physical Society, Deputy Director of the Condensed Matter Theory and Statistical Physics Committee of the Chinese Physical Society, Vice Chairman of the Computational Physics Society of the Chinese Nuclear Society, member of the Mathematics and Physics Division of the 8th Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, and Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Journal of High Pressure Physics and Computational Materials Today.

Ma Yanming has long been dedicated to research in high-pressure physics and computational physics. He discovered the Anti-Wilson metal-to-insulator transition of sodium under high pressure, and the identification of the hydrogen-rich superconductor CaH₆ with a critical temperature above 210 K, pioneering the study of hydrogen-cage high-temperature superconductors. He also developed the CALYPSO method and software for crystal-structure prediction based on chemical composition information, which has been adopted under licence by over 4,700 researchers at more than 1,000 institutions across 77 countries. His work has earned three Second-Class National Natural Science Awards, the Jamieson Award from the International Association for the Advancement of High Pressure Science and Technology, and the Walter Kohn Prize from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Italy.

Ma Yanming has published over 300 papers in leading journals such as Nature and PRL, with more than 30,000 citations in SCI. Among these, two of his corresponding-author papers have each garnered over 2,000 SCI citations. From 2017 to 2023, he was continuously listed as a Clarivate Analytics Global Highly Cited Researchers List, and he has delivered more than 90 invited and plenary talks at major international conferences including the Gordon Research Conferences, the American Physical Society March Meeting and the International Conference on High Pressure Science and Technology.
